The City of Independence is seeking highly motivated, solution-oriented individuals to join the Community Development Team. As a member of the team, the Construction Inspector II/III will be part of a culture of innovation, initiative, and collaboration. The Construction Inspector II/III will be responsible for inspection of new, rehabilitation, and replacement of public infrastructure and related materials and activities, review and approval of submittals, review of proposed construction plans, and general administration of associated construction activities. Candidates should demonstrate interest in growing skills, knowledge, and career, and must be detail-oriented with multi-tasking capabilities in a fast-paced environment. Excellent customer service skills, including ability to communicate tactfully with the public. The ideal candidates are solution-focused, diligent, driven to action, and takes pride in their work. Will perform other related duties as assigned as applicable to the Community Development Department. This position will likely need to adjust hours and schedule to align with construction needs. CDL preferred.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and three years of progressively responsible related experience, or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Requires a valid Missouri driver's license. Must complete required NIMS 100 (IS-100.C) and NIMS 700 (IS-00700.b), and MoDOT LPA Basic training within first six months of hire. Additionally, must complete MoDOT Inspection of Concrete Series within first twelve (12) months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of principles, practices and standards of engineering and construction. Skill in applying mathematical concepts and principles. Skill and ability in recordkeeping, report preparation, filing, computer applications related to work including data input into Cityworks data management system, OneOffice or other construction management software, and general office practices. Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

Physical Demands: Hand dexterity to operate personal computer and other equipment related to job. Incumbent is frequently required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; use of hands to handle, finger, or feel, and to reach with hands and arms. May be required to lift up to 25 lbs.

Typical Working Conditions: Working conditions are in both office environment and outdoor weather conditions.
