The Clermont County Department of Community and Economic Development (CED) is currently seeking qualified candidates to serve as the County's Chief Building Official/County Building Inspector**.** Clermont County is a growing community on the east side of Cincinnati that contains suburban, rural, and historic communities with a range of development activity. In 2024, the building inspection staff approved over 5,800 permits for over $560 Million of new construction, including over 670 single family home permits. Building activity has continued so expect a fast-paced environment with a diversity of project types.CED contains several related disciplines and functions which will provide a supportive framework and broader context in which the CBO will perform his/her duties. The CED includes the divisions of economic development, planning, community development block grants, geographic information systems and building permitting functions. With an overall departmental culture focused on providing the best environment to encourage business and residential growth, the CBO will have the opportunity to establish a responsive and collaborative process within the permit and inspections division. Reporting to the department Director, the CBO supervises the permit, inspection, and engineering staff.The ideal candidate will:- Be registered as a Professional Engineer or Architect within the State of Ohio.- Have experience in managing a staff and developing budgets.- Possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Architecture or Engineering.- Possess at least interim certifications with the Ohio Board of Building Standards as a Building Official and plans to obtain permanent certification within 18 months of hire date.- Plans to obtain at least interim certifications with the Ohio Board of Building Standards as a Master Plans Examiner within 18 months of hire date.- Possess strong professional judgment, business writing, and public speaking skills with a demonstrated ability to learn and operate a variety of software packages.- Have general knowledge and experience with software products for permitting in order to provide input for ongoing improvements to its design and implementation in Clermont County.- Bring a collaborative leadership style to the position, developing and maintaining effective working relationships with developers, building and property owners, residents, and other related agencies such as Public Health, the County Engineer, and other units of local government.**The starting salary is dependent upon experience and qualifications (median wage is $103,700.)
