Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

Gannett Fleming TranSystems is seeking a Railroad Construction Inspector to join our Lisle, IL office.

It is Gannett Fleming TranSystems' practice to maintain a close liaison with our clients during the course of a project. We feel a close working relationship with our client, a thorough understanding of the project, and sensitivity to the client's and the affected general public’s needs and concerns will expedite the successful completion of the project. Therefore, we are looking for a highly motivated individual that can effectively communicate with clients, contractors, and public and project staff. The successful candidate must have experience in railroad related construction including general civil and site development, utilities, track work, and bridge construction.

Primary Responsibilities (others may be included):

  • Actively manage and oversee on-site construction staff of both Gannett Fleming TranSystems and sub-consultants.
  • Manage project staffing levels along with the overall project budget.
  • Review construction contract documents for overall understanding of the project and for constructability concerns.
  • Prepare and implement alternate solutions to construction issues as they arise. Coordinate solutions with Design Engineers and the Client.
  • Provide observation and inspection of the construction work and contractor operations to verify that the construction is accomplished in accordance with the plans and specifications.
  • Provide liaison functions related to coordination of contractors, utilities, developers, other agencies and property owners engaged or affected by the project. Meet with contractors regularly to coordinate work, resolve issues, review scheduling and sequence operations.
  • Conduct utility meetings with all affected utilities and verify relocation schedules. Coordinate and document the relocation of existing utilities, and make sure they are not relocated into a new conflicting location.
  • Prepare and maintain daily and periodic documentation and records throughout the project necessary to verify progress, quantities, materials documentation, measurement and computation of pay items, pay estimates, change orders, and other authorized plan and/or contract adjustments.

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or in Civil Engineering, or related field, or 10 plus years of field experience managing and inspecting projects.
  • Requires minimum 5 years’ industry experience related to job duties with railroad construction projects.
  • Individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel software and other Internet software.
  • Excellent Leadership and Communication experience required.
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
