WORK OBJECTIVE:
Performs and oversees line maintenance work in the infrastructure, gravity sewer mains, laterals, force mains, and reclaimed water mains. Work is performed under minimal supervision with considerable latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Position relies on experience to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures.

Organizes and participates in the rebuilding and upgrading of sewer lift stations and preventative maintenance and repair of sewer systems to include gravity sewer mains
Ensures that staff are completing daily work orders and reports in a timely and accurate manner
Estimates and requisitions necessary equipment and materials; obtains quotes; contacts vendors as needed
Oversees and assists with the reclaim water system to include installing and repairing water meters, wet taps for new reuse services, and new reuse lines
Obtains and records reuse meter readings; ensures accurate billing and record keeping
Oversees and assists with meter replacement and meter change-outs
Responds to and resolves complaints from the public regarding sewer and reuse water issues
Pipe patching gravity sewer mains and televising lines.
Ensures that all areas are clean and free of anything that would constitute a safety hazard
Performs inspections on sewer and reclaim as needed
Coordinates work with other departments as needed
Supervision:
Schedules, trains, motivates, and evaluates personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; makes recommendations regarding discipline and termination
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by four or more years experience in specific installation, maintenance and repair activities based on area of assignment (e.g. lift stations, grounds keeping, etc.); including at least one year of lead worker experience; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience. Must have a valid Florida Class A commercial driver's license.
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions in order to perform this job successfully.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· Advanced knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques used in the extension, repair, and maintenance of sewer systems
· Advanced knowledge of the lift station network, including locations of all lift stations
· Skill in the operation of tools and equipment necessary to perform duties
· Skill in working independently and following through with assignments with minimal direction
· Ability to train subordinates in the maintenance and repair of equipment used in assigned area of responsibility
· Ability to lead and motivate to achieve goals
· Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
· Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
· Ability to follow oral and written instructions
· Ability to read blueprints and other diagrams that relate to machinery and vehicles used in line maintenance
· Ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office products (Word and Outlook) and applicable department/organization specific software
· Ability to use critical thinking skills to arrive at solutions and suggest improvements to processes
· Ability to organize work for timely completion
· Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort usually involving some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 80 pounds). Usually involves some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking or standing.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks are regularly performed outside with exposure to adverse environmental conditions (e.g., dirt, cold, rain, fumes).
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks require sound and visual perception and discrimination. Tasks require oral communications ability.
