Overview

Herzog Contracting Corp. is seeking a highly experienced Safety Trainer in Havre de Grace, MD to join our team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for bridge construction and railroad safety personnel.
  • Ensure full compliance with FRA, OSHA, and other applicable safety regulations through ongoing training, education, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry changes and advancements.
  • Conduct safety orientation sessions for new hires, refresher training for existing employees, and specialized courses as needed.
  • Lead hands-on training in hazard recognition, emergency response, fall protection, confined space entry, and other critical safety topics.
  • Design and implement train-the-trainer programs to expand safety education capabilities within the organization.
  • Perform risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and safety audits as well as investigating incidents and near misses to improve training content and reinforce preventative measures.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • OSHA Outreach Trainer for the Construction Industry.
  • CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification.
  • Preferred professional certification through BCSP (CSP, CHST, or equivalent) or another accredited safety organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of railroad safety protocols, bridge construction hazards, and FRA regulations.
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering safety training programs in high-risk environments.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and instructional skills, with the ability to engage and educate workers at all levels.
  • Experience working in railroad, bridge construction, or infrastructure projects with a focus on safety training.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.

  • Perform light work, occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs.
  • Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Regularly kneel, bend, and squat.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
