JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, observe activities of contractors involved with installation and maintenance of telecommunications equipment at City water utility sites. Inspect construction, repair, and maintenance of the water distribution and wastewater collection system. Operate fire hydrants and water valves; record their location with a GPS unit; maintain records of these functions electronically. Perform other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Observe activities of contractors involved with installation and maintenance of telecommunications equipment at City water utility sites. Keep accurate daily records of time, materials, construction, and overall project status, and report status to Public Services management. Perform routine operational and inspection tasks for utility facilities, including general site inspection, valve operation, lamp inspection, generator operation, and security device inspection; document the completion of these tasks. Operate fire hydrants and water valves; record their location with a GPS unit; maintain records of these functions electronically. Implement and enforce rules and regulations regarding employees, contractors, and public safety, such as using flagmen, applied confined space safety, and erecting barricades. Interpret maps and drawings effectively. Keep accurate daily records of time, material, and construction. Use good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly. Communicate courteously and effectively with other employees, officials, contractors and the public. Hear clearly to work safely when working around equipment and in street and alley traffic. Lift and/or carry up to 100 pounds; pull, push, and/or drag up to 150 pounds of repair equipment and materials. Work in confined spaces, using appropriate safety gear and precautions. Climb, crawl, kneel, squat, stoop, and/or bend freely when supervising or participating in water/wastewater repairs. Sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods of time while supervising or participating in construction repairs. Work indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures, including heat, cold, temperature swings, and in inclement weather. Some exposure to mechanical, electrical and explosive hazards, dust, toxic and chemical waste, using proper safety precautions.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:
High School Diploma or GED required. Texas Drivers License required.

One year of experience required in maintenance and/or construction of water distribution and wastewater collection system.
