General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Superintendent, Physical Plant, the Maintenance Worker II - Carpenter position is a maintenance team staff member with responsibilities for a variety of general maintenance areas and specialized capabilities related to supporting Campus Carpentry and Construction projects. This full-time regular position will be responsible for all campus plant operations.
Essential Functions
Maintain Interior and Exteriorponents of the Buildings.
Construction of cabinets, furniture, walls, and countertops. Install glass, floors, cabinets, countertops, doors, bulletin boards, and similar items.
Repair and install doors, door locks, maintain key inventory to include cutting keys, repairing and installing door cylinders, also the ability to pick locks as necessary.
Repair walls, tables, chairs, and cabinets, welding repairs if needed.
Assist in Materials Management
Determine materials needed for specific projects, calculate costs, order materials, and keep records of the project materials and costs.
Keep track of inventory, order and receive carpentry tools as needed, and be able to use all tools pertaining to general carpentry, along with performing routine maintenance of these tools.
Promote a Culture of Belonging
Support and promote an environment of belonging w all students, faculty members, and college employees feel weed, valued, and empowered to contribute. Foster amunity w each individual and their varied perspectives enrich the educational experience and create a safe and respectful environment. Support the College's policies and programming related to access, fair employment, and equal opportunities for all.
Marginal Functions
Assist in the maintenance of all custodial and maintenance equipment.
Be available during inclement weather to assist with snow removal.
Assist with the installation of concrete. Including the preparation of the area and operating jackhammers when needed.
Assist with the general maintenance of the building and grounds, including carpentry, painting, and vehicle maintenance.
Perform other related duties within the division/program as assigned.
May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to read, understand, and/or follow instructions related to hazardous materials.
Ability to transport and use ladders of all sizes, a hijacked and a rental boom truck.
Ability to operate equipment such as trucks, automobiles, tractors, forklifts, power hand tools, and other equipment as required.
Ability to work andmunicate with a diverse group of students, staff, and the public.
Ability to work as a productive member of a maintenance team using the established practices, procedures, and policies of the college and directives of the supervisor.
Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting and moving techniques.
Ability to use power tools related to the Carpentry Trade.
Ability tomunicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.
Ability to use basicputer skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Stand on feet for extended periods of time.
Walk on hard surfaces.
Lift 80 lbs. on a regular basis.
Carry 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
Bend, stoop, or squat to floor level on a repetitive basis.
Hand-eye coordination is required to operate equipment.
Reach overhead on a repetitive basis.
Climb on ladders or scaffolding to heights of 24 feet.
Work outside in extreme hot and cold conditions.
Work in areas with noise, some requiring the use of hearing protection.
Work in areas requiring the use of safety glasses.
Work in areas involving dusts, odors, fumes, and gases.
Work inside under extreme hot conditions.
Work outside in extreme cold conditions.
The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable amodation, using some otherbination of skills and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate or GED with vocational training or on-the-job training.
Minimum of five (5) years work experience in the Carpentry field OR, a minimum of three (3) years of related work experience inbination with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Building Construction or a directly affiliated field of study.
Current and valid Driver's License.
Ability to qualify for auto insurance coverage.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in Commercial Construction.
Experience working from a blue start to finish of Construction Projects of various sizes.
Salary
$22.75 per hour
Benefits
SCC BEN Dollars - Eligible Employees: Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee's paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for ie and employment taxes, but not subject to the College's contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan - Group Retirement Account (GRA).
Schedule
Normal working hours for this full-time regular position are scheduled between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, requiring a minimum of a 40-hour work week, based on a 260-day work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek. Requires being on-call at all times to assist with projects and snow removal, requiring some Saturday, Sunday, and Holiday work hours
