SUMMARY - Performs highly complex automotive repair work; does related work as required. This is a shop foreman position at a certified level involved in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel equipment. The shop foreman in this classification, with little supervision from the Automotive Services Manager, diagnoses and makes mechanical/electronic repairs on all sizes of gasoline and diesel equipment. Responsible for assisting in supervising daily shop operations and participating in the maintenance and repair of city-owned vehicles and equipment. Should posses A/C Certifications and ASE Certifications.
ESSENTIALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.- On-call towing light and heavy-duty
- Using electronic diagnostic equipment to trace out and repair any vehicle system, including electrical/electronic, carburetor/fuel injection, hydraulic/pneumatic heat, air conditioning, and any other major repair that requires the experience of an accredited gasoline/diesel mechanic.
- Repairs diesel passenger buses, forklifts, streetsweepers, and off-road equipment
- Supervises mechanics and helpers in the absence of the Automotive Services Manager
- Must be proficient in compute technology terminology to repair both light and heavy-duty vehicles
- Must be able to read and interpret computer and electrical schematic store pair light and heavy vehicles
- Knowledge of diesel after-treatment systems
- Knowledge of how to replace engines and transmissions and repair
- Ability to perform annual inspections on equipment and vehicles
- Knowledge of high fuel pressure and injector diagnosis
- Ensure that all repairs are assigned to technicians in an equal and fair manner
- Provide technical support for technicians when necessary
- Check the progress of each repair order throughout the day
- Maintains high-quality service repairs and minimizes comebacks
- Conducts periodic spot checks on completed jobs for thoroughness and quality
- Accounts for all documents, ensure that none are missing and all are processed correctly
- Ensures the proper care, storage, and inventory of special tools
- Maintains a safe working environment
- Maintaining a daily log of out-of-service vehicles/equipment
- Daily log of who is assigned job orders and what Vehicles/Equipment
- Assist in opening and closing completed job orders in AS400 daily, so labor and parts will be billed to appropriate departments

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree(GED), preferably in the vocational arts with the completion of an apprenticeship in automotive mechanics; and/or five years of practical Experience certified by the National Institute of Automotive Services, including experience repairing gasoline/diesel equipment at a master level or equivalent combination of education and experience.LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules , operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization. Follow and relay oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Mental Acuity: Making rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Currently holds a valid Commercial Driver's License with Class A endorsements or must obtain one with in one year, 609 Refrigerant Containment License, ASE certification T1T8.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of gasoline and diesel-powered engines, transmissions, and drive trains; physical dexterity required to perform all necessary duties. Willingness and ability to assist other mechanics in any other type of work; ability to operate electronic and mechanical testing equipment generally used by automotive mechanics; and ability to rebuild and repair parts and engines.
