Position Summary
The Transmission Superintendent will lead the daily operations, maintenance, and construction efforts across our transmission network. This role requires strong leadership, field knowledge, and a commitment to safety, quality, and performance standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Project Planning and Execution
Develop detailed construction plans for new transmission lines, including routing, tower placement, and equipment selection.
Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure on-time, within-budget delivery.
Coordinate closely with engineering teams to resolve technical challenges during the planning and construction phases.
Crew Supervision and Safety
Lead and manage field crews, assigning daily tasks and ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols.
Conduct safety training sessions and job site inspections to prevent incidents and maintain regulatory compliance.
Respond promptly to safety concerns and implement effective corrective actions.
Quality Control and Inspections
Perform routine inspections to verify that construction activities align with project specifications and quality standards.
Monitor equipment installation and maintenance for performance and reliability.
Identify and address quality issues proactively to prevent delays or failures.
Maintenance and Repair Management
Oversee the ongoing maintenance and repair of existing transmission infrastructure, including tower integrity, conductor performance, and vegetation management.
Coordinate outage response efforts and ensure timely repair and restoration of service.
Compliance and Regulatory Oversight
Ensure all construction and operational activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
Remain informed on evolving industry standards, environmental regulations, and transmission codes.
Secure necessary permits and approvals required for new construction and system upgrades.
Stakeholder Management
Communicate and collaborate with landowners, government agencies, and other external stakeholders to gain project support and resolve concerns.
Keep internal teams and management informed on project progress, challenges, and milestones.
Qualifications
Minimum of 8 years in electric transmission or utility line work, with at least 3 years in a leadership/supervisory role preferred.
Thorough understanding of transmission line systems, NESC, OSHA, and applicable codes and safety standards.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in project management tools, scheduling software, and asset management systems.
Valid driver's license/CDL and ability to travel throughout service territory.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in outdoor environments in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
Must be able to walk on uneven terrain, climb ladders, and navigate transmission right-of-ways.
Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, crouching, and standing for extended periods.
Ability to safely enter substations, climb structures, and perform visual inspections in elevated areas.
Must be available for on-call duties, storm restoration work, and emergency response at any time, including nights and weekends.
Visual and auditory ability to safely navigate active work zones and operate in proximity to high-voltage equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
Familiarity with SCADA systems, GIS, and mobile workforce platforms preferred.
First aid/CPR certification and advanced safety training credentials.
