Overview : Founded in 1967, Useless Bay Golf and Country Club features one of the Northwest’s finest Private 18-hole golf courses. An all-weather, year-round golfing facility on Whidbey Island, the course utilizes the foliage, topography, and all-natural water hazards of the Island. UBGCC is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary golf course.

What you’ll do:
The Brass Tacks
- Assist the golf course Superintendent with the daily operations and scheduling.
- Perform standard golf course maintenance duties, including fertilizer/pesticide applications, irrigation and drainage repairs, construction, and course set-up.
- Train staff in how to perform their task safely and efficiently.
- Monitor course conditions daily and make recommendations for improvements to enhance playability and aesthetics.
- Responsible for training all staff members in the operation of all equipment, with safety being the highest priority.
- Maintain communication with the Superintendent, staff, and the Professional staff as needed.
- Assist the Superintendent in administration, project planning, and execution.
- Manage the Nimbus II Rainbird Irrigation System. (Scheduled to install a new IC Rainbird Irrigation System within 2 to 4 years.)
- Communicate with the Equipment Manager to ensure equipment is ready for use and organized and cleaned at the end of each day.
- Enforce and follow rules, guidelines, and company policies.
The Nitty Gritty
- 2- or 4-year degree in Turfgrass Management (or currently pursuing one) preferred.
- Previous experience in golf course maintenance.
- Proficient knowledge of irrigation and drainage systems.
- Supervise, motivate, and efficiently manage a crew of 14+ employees.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to delivering exceptional results.
- Flexibility to work overtime, every other weekend during the peak season, holidays that fall on your schedule, and mandatory tournaments.
- Experience with spraying fertilizers/pesticides, calibrating equipment, and knowledge of turf products.
- Current WA. State Pesticide Applicator’s license or can obtain one within 6 months.
- Active golfer and knowledgeable about the game of golf.
