Track Construction Operator (Lexington, KY)

Responsibilities:

  • Perform new track construction or maintenance tasks associated with railroad tracks
  • Operate heavy or specialized equipment, including but not limited to skid steer, plugger, spike puller, bolt machine, compactor/ roller
  • Practice safe working habits and ensure proper PPE is being used
  • Be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions
  • Communicate with team and supervisor throughout the job process

Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Experience working outdoors (preferably in construction)
  • Mobility to participate in frequent travel to and from project location
  • Safety conscious with high regard to other employees working with and near equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to perform physical strenuous work
  • Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Requires occasional use of 30 lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50 lbs of force
  • Requires occasional use of 10 lb sledgehammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75 lbs of force
  • Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
  • Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary

Environmental Conditions:

  • Performs duties in multiple environments including outside construction project settings, in and around moving vehicles and equipment. Exposure to weather elements; must wear appropriate PPE required for the project site.

Major or Unusual Problems:

  • Extensive travel and requirement to stay at project sites for the duration of project. Must carry out responsibilities in a fast-paced, outside construction environment
  • Will require being away from home for extended periods.

  • Interfaces with all levels of employees, management, and external customers.
