Job Summary: Primary Duty:
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for developing and maintaining reliable and effective sources of materials and services at the lowest effective cost to the company. Reviews and processes requisitions, obtains quotes, conducts analysis of proposals, conducts negotiations, maintains knowledge of vendors; develops and implements blanket orders and contracts and monitors vendor quality.
Essential Functions:
* Monitors past due receipts/invoices and payments; collects credits working closely with internal accounting department on invoice issues.
* Reviews requisitions for accuracy. Monitors reports following up on backorders, assessing that purchase orders are updated assuring goods are shipped and makes special arrangements for delivery.
* Work with warehouse manager to evaluate inventory levels for supplies adding new inventory and deleting obsolete items. Monitors flow and storage of materials within the storeroom.
* Utilizes purchasing programs for small value and repetitive purchases such as procurement cards, blanket orders, and service contracts.
* Develops and maintains professional relationships with the vendor community. Communicates directly with sales representatives regarding quotations and purchases.
* Develop rapport with maintenance and production leads, and act as a liaison between the company and outside vendors.
* Demonstrate strong commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement.
* Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Education/Experience/Physical Functions:
College degree, or equivalent work experience in related job function. Degree in purchasing, business administration or related field preferred. Minimum of three (3) of procurement experience or equivalent experience in support of basic manufacturing operations. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Strong PC skills required. APP or CPM certification a plus.
Decision-Making/Supervisory:
Under direct supervision exercises limited independent judgment.
Scope:
Source materials, services, and equipment in a manner that achieves maximum value from the expenditure. Researches and selects vendors. Obtains oral and written quotations from vendors. Negotiates and confirms prices, terms, ship dates and part numbers.
