BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to evaluate and recommend changes, review and manage infrastructure and public improvement projects, provide engineering solutions for problems, and to address citizen concerns. This is accomplished by reviewing plans and specifications, designing solutions, expansion, construction or relocation projects, coordinating with developers, contractors, consultants, the public and departments, developing plans and specifications, reviewing proposals and plan documents, coordinating inspections, and responding to inquiries under the direction of the City Engineer. Other duties include assisting the public with maps and questions, and completing related administrative assignments and tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. S Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice

2. S Prepare plans, specifications and estimates for Public Works Infrastructure Improvements under the direction of the City Engineer.

3. S Manages construction projects by soliciting construction bids, facilitating pre-bid conferences, verifying calculations, finalizing recommendations, processing contract documents, issuing notices, monitoring project progress, recommending payments, and closing out projects.

4. S Assist other engineers with projects and related assignments

5. S Participates in regular project update meetings, taking calls from citizens, engineers, architects, contractors and developers, recommend solutions, and monitoring ongoing projects.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

Civil Engineer in Training with EIT Certification.

Individuals who qualify but do not currently have their EIT will be given six monts from the date of hire or promotion to attain the EIT certification as a condition of employment.

Driver's License Required - Y Type - C - Passenger

Mathematical Requirements Uses mathematics involving the practical application of percentages, ratios and proportions; or measurements, logarithmic, or geometric construction; may use algebraic solutions of equations and inequalities; descriptive statistics; deductive geometry, plane and solid, and rectangular coordinates; mathematical classifications or schemes.

Communications Requirements Reads technical instructions, procedures manuals, and charts to solve practical problems such as assembly instruction for tools, routine office equipment operating instructions, and methods and procedures for investigations, and in drawing and layout work; composes routine reports and specialized reports, forms, and business letters, with proper format; speaks compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.

Judgement Requirements Responsible for actions of others requiring development of procedures and constant decisions affecting subordinate workers, crime victims, patients, customers, clients, or others in the general public; works in a very fluid environment with guidelines but significant variation.
