Job Description Summary

This position is an entry level permitting technician. Duties will include specialized work of substantial variety and complexity. Technical adequacy of work is reviewed upon completion. Non-routine work may be reviewed in process by supervisor.

Administration - 60%

  • Assignments include the application of engineering, construction, and safety techniques and criteria for permitting in Weld County, such as right-of-way use and oversize/overweight vehicles.

  • Other assignments include data entry related to right-of-way use and oversize/overweight permitting regarding the application of business decision making processing.

  • Provide customer service for permitting functions consistent with the Weld County Code, policies as well as State and Federal regulations.

  • Assist with assignments requiring independent and individual contribution.

  • Must read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations.

  • Interpret and implement a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral formats.

  • Must perform work in a courteous and safe manner and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors, and the public.

Communication and Coordination - 30%

  • Coordinate with other Public Works Divisions and County Departments.

  • Cross train as required for all Public Works permits.

  • Efficiently and concisely communicate both written and verbally.

  • Effectively present information to supervisors, management, staff, the public, contractors and/or County board members.

Other Duties as Assigned - 10%

  • Assist with snow desk operations and be available for alternating weekly on-call duties, fall through spring, as assigned.
  • Support emergency responses and be available to respond to and work extraordinary hours.

Required Qualifications

Required Education

  • High School Diploma/GED and 1 year experience in a civil construction or engineering work environment or
  • Post high school education may be substituted for work experience, with training in a specialty field or
  • Associate's Degree of Applied Science (AAS) in Engineering/Construction Management field or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with job knowledge or
  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in all MS Office applications, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong computer skills requiring data entry, speed, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to apply standard mathematical operations and calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and monetary functions.
  • Must pass a substance screening prior to employment.
  • A post-offer physical screening is required prior to position start date.

Licenses and Certifications

  • A valid Colorado driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license by employment start date. Required

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

This position is non-exempt from the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay.
