Hartford Public Schools is seeking an exceptional educational leader to serve as our next Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning. This pivotal role will help shape the academic vision of our district and guide our schools toward excellence and equity for all students.
About the Role
The Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning will collaborate with our leadership team to develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive educational program that meets the diverse needs of our student population. This leader will champion instructional excellence, support educator growth, and drive meaningful improvement in student achievement across our district.
What You'll Bring
- Teaching expertise and educational leadership: Significant classroom experience paired with deep knowledge of curriculum design, teacher development, instructional pedagogy, and evidence-based practices
- Proven track record of improvement: Demonstrated success in leading district and school improvement efforts that have resulted in measurable gains in student achievement, preferably in urban educational settings
- Data-driven decision making: Strong ability to analyze and interpret data to inform instructional decisions and design responsive solutions that address diverse student learning needs
- Collaborative leadership style: Capacity to build strong relationships with teachers, principals, families, and community partners to advance educational goals
- Change management skills: Experience guiding teams through educational transformation with empathy, clarity, and strategic vision
Qualifications
- Master's degree in educational leadership, curriculum and instruction, or related field (Ed.D. or Ph.D. preferred)
- Connecticut Intermediate Administration or Supervision certificate (092) is required
- Minimum of 8 years of administrative experience in education, school-site and district-level experience
- Superior communication, interpersonal, and capacity-building skills
- Commitment to educational equity and and success for all student groups
- Demonstrated experience in budgeting and resource allocation
