Building Engineer

HBW Construction is seeking a skilled Building Engineer who is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and safety of all building systems for commercial properties. This role requires hands-on technical skills, effective communication, and proactive problem-solving to maintain the highest standards expected of a premier property.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain building systems including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
• Test and monitor life safety systems (fire alarms, sprinklers, emergency lighting).
• Perform preventive maintenance and ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Maximize system efficiency to reduce energy usage and control costs.
• Diagnose and resolve MEP-related issues in a timely manner.
• Respond to emergencies such as power outages or equipment failures.
• Coordinate and supervise work performed by external vendors.
• Communicate maintenance updates and disruptions clearly to tenants and staff.
• Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, certifications, and repairs.
• Support tenant satisfaction and retention through excellent service delivery.
• Ensure adherence to local codes, regulations, and safety protocols.
• Mentor junior maintenance staff and share technical knowledge.

Qualifications

Education & Skills:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Working knowledge of MEP systems and preventive maintenance practices.
• Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and energy management tools.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to climb ladders and access rooftops.
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Capable of walking project sites multiple times a day for extended periods.
