Nye County Landfill, a Waste Connections company, is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team in Pahrump, NV !

Schedule : Tuesday-Saturday 7:30am-4:30pm.

Compensation : Starting pay is $20.50/hour. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, 401k, paid vacation, and more.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Operate tractor loader, D8 dozer, water truck, compactor and skid steer to manage waste and debris

  • Move and grade soil as needed to maintain site operations

  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of equipment

  • Provide assistance to customers and team members as required

  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment

  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and adhere to company safety standards.

  • Assist in the proper placement and compaction of waste materials within the landfill.

  • Support sorting and disposal of materials in compliance with environmental regulations.

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and daily operational activities

  • Submit reports as directed by supervisors.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, maintenance staff, and fellow operators.

  • Promptly report any operational issues, safety concerns, or equipment malfunctions.

Working Conditions :

  • Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and occasional rain.

  • The position involves physical labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

  • The environment may be dusty, noisy, and require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hearing protection, gloves, and safety boots.

  • There will be exposure to machinery and heavy equipment, so safety protocols and precautions are strictly followed.

Minimum Job Requirements :

  • 3+ years of heavy equipment operating experience

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted

  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen

  • Valid driver's license with clean record

  • Ability to work effectively in various outdoor conditions, including exposure to weather elements, physical labor, and a dynamic work environment.
