Overview

TransitAmerica Services, Inc. is currently seeking a qualified Senior Superintendent of Signals in Menlo Park, CA to join our team.

The pay range for this position is $155,000 - $170,000.

Duties and Responsibilities:

*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.

  • Oversee, monitor & Manage FRA inspections, maintenance and repair of the company’s signal and communications infrastructure.
  • Provide oversight for management of material acquisition, inventory and production costs.
  • Oversee, monitor, evaluate Coordination of engineering activities with transportation operations.
  • Develops, Implements and manages annual budgets for Signal department, including five year capital plan.
  • Supervise Signal Superintendents who will direct work crews, including signal Foremen, Inspectors and signal technicians.
  • Oversee, monitor, evaluate Execute action plans to achieve quality business objectives.
  • Provide oversight of Coordination and daily activities with respective functional areas.
  • Oversee, monitor, evaluate work force levels to ensure all jobs are covered, including day, night, weekend, vacation, and holidays.
  • Be able to respond to signal related trouble calls as needed, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Create and implement processes including monitoring and follow up on those processes with the goal of making the system function at a higher quality level.
  • Exceptional knowledge in railroad signal/communication practices.
  • Exceptional knowledge in FRA rules and regulations, especially signal systems part 234, part 236, 214-Safety, 219 D&A, and part 228- Hours of service.
  • Significant knowledge of CPUC General Orders.
  • Provide direction and oversight in addressing any safety-related issue to verify a safe work environment.
  • Oversee the creation of detailed technical records of proposed and completed work.
  • Provide oversight to Signal Superintendents reading, understanding and directing work based on signal plans.
  • Oversee, monitor, evaluate in development, training and mentoring signal employees.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
  • 10 years of previous management and supervision experience from a Class 1 railroad or Heavy Rail/Commuter Rail transportation system with experience in:
    • Performing railroad signal maintenance and right of way signal work projects.
    • Coordinating and assisting with the maintenance of railroad signals and communications.
    • Oversight of contracts for construction and/or maintenance, reading and understanding prints and technical specifications, rules and regulations.
    • Inspecting signal and communications associated with railroad maintenance.
    • Review of track safety and quality assurance.
    • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Methods and principles and practices of signal systems safety requirements in maintenance and operations
  • Principles and practices of inspection and maintenance of Rules, Standards, and Instructions Governing the Installation, Inspection, Maintenance, and Repair of Signal and Train Control Systems, Devices, and Appliances
  • Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations of the Federal Railroad Administration
  • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and statistical databases
  • GCOR rules and regulations preferred.
  • MOW on-track rules and regulations-preferred.
  • Must have the ability to function in a dynamic environment and have the ability to prioritize work elements

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements for this position.

  • Lift and transfer weight up to 70 pounds for a distance of up to 100 feet.
  • Work in extreme all-weather conditions; uneven surfaces; safety sensitive work environment.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile.
  • Regularly ascend and descend an 18 step ladder with up to 25 pounds. Frequently climb on/off equipment.
  • Regularly push/pull with a body force of up to 50 pounds.
  • Use hands to regularly grasp or squeeze wrenches, switches requiring force up to 60 pounds.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals.
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
  • Regularly kneel, bend, squat while transferring up to 25 pounds of weight.
  • Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Work in a confined access/space environment as narrow as 18 inches.
