Position Description & Details
Bismarck State College is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Teaching Professor in Electrician Technology to join our dedicated team. This position is an exciting opportunity for someone with hands-on electrical expertise and a passion for teaching to support the success of students pursuing careers as professional electricians. You'll play a key role in shaping the next generation of skilled workers in the electrical trade through dynamic, engaging, and safety-conscious instruction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lab Preparation & Instruction: Prepare and set up lab equipment to ensure students have a safe, hands-on environment for learning key electrical skills. Teach the technical and safety aspects of working as an electrician, covering critical topics such as electrical theory, print reading, wiring, the National Electric Code (NEC), motor systems, and three-phase electricity.
- Safety & Technical Training: Emphasize best practices in safety and industry standards, ensuring students understand the risks and precautions involved in the electrical trade. Guide students in proper electrical techniques and safe working practices.
- Student Mentoring: Offer academic and professional guidance to students, helping them develop both technical proficiency and soft skills necessary to succeed in the electrical field.
- Record Keeping & Grade Submission: Maintain accurate and timely record and submission of student performance, including attendance, grades, and assessments.
- Committee Work & Program Outreach: Participate in departmental committees, contribute to program development, and assist with outreach activities to promote the program.
- Industry Collaboration: Collaborate with industry professionals to ensure that the curriculum aligns with current industry needs, standards, and emerging technologies. Develop strong relationships with employers to enhance opportunities for student internships, apprenticeships, and job placements.
- Other Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Dean or Academic Dean to support the growth and success of the department and its students.
Minimum Requirements
- Associate degree in electrician technician or equivalent and three years non-teaching work experience.
- Electrician License (Journeyman or higher).
Preferred Qualifications
- Appropriate bachelor's degree.
- Curriculum development, teaching, and/or training experience.
- Experience with hands-on teaching methods.
- Industry-related certifications.
