Position GEO Geotechnical Engineer Atlas Technical Consultants LLC San Diego CA Duties Arrange and perform site investigation programs to identify potential geotechnical and geological challenges that may affect engineering design recommendations by gathering data on soil and rock conditions including properties such as composition strength permeability and stability; Complete sampling and logging activities during the subsurface investigation programs that facilitate laboratory tests for earth related elements including soils aggregates concrete grout masonry and asphalt; Perform various types of infiltration testing to assess soil permeability values which can then be used to design BMP components to manage stormwater runoffs drywells or infiltration basins; Perform in situ testing such as plate load testing for various transportation projects; Assist in establishing and implementing standard geotechnical analysis and testing processes that help evaluate the properties capacity and behavior of subsurface soil bedrock and groundwater conditions; Develop design parameters and recommendations for geotechnical components of various structures eg building foundations stability of earth slopes support for deep excavations; Work with geotechnical software including slope stability packages Slide SlopeW pile modeling tools L Pile Shaft All Pile Finite Element Modeling Plaxis Midas GTS NX and site response software Shake DeepSoil; Perform geotechnical earthquake engineering analyses including ground motion hazard analysis liquefaction hazard assessment and lateral spread analysis These analyses provide insight into the response of ground layers during an earthquake which can be used as an input for further analysis by structural engineers or as stand alone information to ensure stability of ground layers during seismic events; Perform installation data collection and interpretation of geotechnical instrumentation including inclinometers shape accelerometer arrays and pore pressure transducers; These geotechnical instrumentation programs assist in developing an understanding of earth movements under various structural loadings eg lateral displacement monitoring for a structure built on sloping ground or an eroding roadway due to gradual coastal erosion; Manage and overview monitoring programs regarding the geotechnical aspects of construction projects to help ensure the stability safety and durability of structural foundations and other earthen elements eg earth slopes excavations pipe trenches and assist with adjusting the design recommendations based on the ground conditions encountered during the construction This includes overseeing the construction process starting from the grading stage eg providing a level and stable pad for constructing the building foundation; Prepare detailed geotechnical reports that summarize the findings of subsurface evaluations field investigations soil and material analyses geotechnical considerations and proposed solutions; Responsible for project management of various geotechnical projects including different phases of projects from feasibility study to design to construction to ensure successful completion and client satisfaction Requirements Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering plus 24 months of experience as a Geotechnical Engineer; Qualified to obtain DBIDS Defense Biometric Identification System card and work at Navy bases which requires passing a background check and not possessing a disqualifying criminal record Salary 4159 per hour
