Role Description:

The Machine Operator will be loading and unloading machines to support production. Individual will be responsible for operating one or more machines to fabricate metal parts or assemblies to specifications, applying basic knowledge of production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Additional job duties may be assigned.

  • Inspects and measures work pieces to specifications.
  • Unload parts from machine, inspect parts for quality and place in appropriate containers.
  • Examines finished work pieces to verify conformance with specifications according to operator inspection sheet, quality control plans and/or customer notes using instruments such as gauges.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations. Ensure compliance with corporate and plant safety standards.
  • Power up work cell, load jobs from memory stick, check gas, air supply, etc. Change gas, consumables, etc. as required.
  • Basic understanding of computers and ability to perform computer functions as they pertain to the job.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Demonstrated detail orientation, self-motivation skills and ability to multi-task
  • Competent at basic dimensional measuring and able to quickly learn the use of precision measurement tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively implement or respond to change.
  • Moving materials with Hi-Lo and or overhead crane with lift assist.

Work Environment

Work environment characteristics are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employees also may be subject to certain environments such as working near loud moving mechanical parts. The following environments include:

  • Wet or humid conditions (non-weather)
  • Fumes or air borne particles
  • Outdoor weather conditions
  • Vibration
  • Extreme heat

Noise Level

The noise level in the working environment will generally be high. Ear protection will be required.

Special Vision Requirements

  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
  • Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more).
  • Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
  • Depth perception (three dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).
  • Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

Education/Experience/Certifications:

To effectively carry out duties and responsibilities, the following education, experience, or certifications are preferred:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

  • One or more years of experience in commercial vehicle or aerospace manufacturing.
  • Hands on production experience.

Certifications:

  • Preferably Hi-Lo and Overhead crane License. Need to have valid Michigan Driver License.

Computer skills:

  • Experience with basic computer systems.

Communication skills:

  • Speak effectively with fellow employees or customers.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Mathematical skills:

  • Apply mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as basic algebra.

Other Skills:

  • Detail oriented.
  • Organized and able to meet deadlines while performing multiple duties.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
