MAINTENANCE TRADESMAN: CARPENTER

LOCATION: Maintenance Department

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months, Full time, as assigned

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor

SALARY CLASSIFICATION: As per Current Support Salary Schedule

PURPOSE

To maintain the operation structural integrity of the physical plants and equipment of the District for the benefits of

students, staff and patrons.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND MENTAL ABILITY

  • Ability to interpret technical specifications
  • Knowledge and use of power and hand tools
  • General math skills
  • General knowledge of building construction
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and maintain positive relationships with others

JOB REQUIREMENT

High School Diploma or equivalent

Demonstrated skills and experience in general construction and maintenance

Driver's License - Qualify for District Insurance

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Remodel and repair District structures as needed
  • Install and repair concrete
  • Install roof mounted equipment
  • Build and install cabinets and shelving
  • Respond to snow removal and emergency call out
  • Performs and responds to after hour emergency/vandalism calls

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Operate tools, equipment and vehicles
  • Assist with shop drawings
  • Basic welding as required
  • Maintain shop area
  • Handle, measure and mix chemicals
  • Aid in snow removal
  • Assist in handling of heavy objects
  • Practice energy conservation
  • Assist with asbestos removal
  • Participate in District staff development programs
  • Perform duties as assigned by Maintenance Supervisor

WORKING CONDITIONS

Exposure to heat, cold and humidity

Exposure to electrical and mechanical hazards and hazardous locations

Exposure to toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes and odors

Ability to push/pull mobile units of 50 pounds more than 1,000 feet

Ability to handle light to moderately heavy objects constantly (10-50 pounds); heavy objects occasionally (50-100

pounds)

Ability to work from ladders and tight places

Requires strenuous physical exertion and mobility

Lower body strength to stand and walk throughout the workday (walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing

and pulling)Upper body strength to lift 25 pounds and carry more than 50 feet throughout the workday

EVALUATIONS

An annual evaluation will be conducted prior to April 15 by the Supervisor and placed on file with the Human

Resources Office. Additional evaluations may be given at the prerogative of the Supervisor
