Mechanical Engineer
Location: Andover, MA
Contract: 6 months (with possible extension or direct hire)
Schedule: 9/80 schedule | 1st shift | Hybrid (3 days onsite)
Compensation: $45-52/hour with optional PTO and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401k)
Overview
Our client is seeking a Component or Mechanical Engineer to join the Global Component Engineering Department. This role supports high-reliability and mission-critical systems for national defense and space applications.
Ideal Candidate
Experience with high-reliability and mission-critical systems
Knowledge of EEE electrical and mechanical components
Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (IPC, ISO, REACH, RoHS)
Capable of generating procedures and reports for parts obsolescence studies
Able to perform independent research, component selection, and failure analysis
Working knowledge of Engineering Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Responsibilities
Create specifications and part numbers for new component release
Provide mechanical/electrical hardware engineering support
Support sourcing of industrial and military-grade components
Manage supplier Product Change Notices (PCNs), including source identification, qualification plans, and AML approvals
Track and manage RoHS-compliant components and internal part numbers
Oversee BOM transitions from leaded to lead-free components
Research and analyze materials for compliance with REACH, RoHS, Conflict Minerals, and WEEE directives
Serve as GIDEP representative, monitoring for obsolescence, EOL, reliability, and quality issues
Support Conflict Minerals initiatives (3T's & G), including sourcing per the Frank Dodd Act
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
3-5 years of relevant experience preferred
Background in circuit card component selection and engineering
Understanding of engineering release processes, part reliability, and design considerations
Strong hands-on engineering skills and attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
Familiarity with PLM systems; experience with Agile and Oracle is a plus
Experience with obsolescence reporting and tracking
Ability to develop technical solutions independently
Collaborative team player; works well with engineering, purchasing, commodity management, quality, vendors, and manufacturers
Participates in new design development to avoid production issues
Capable of reviewing and creating technical drawings, plans, and specifications
