QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Associated Applied Science Degree in Refrigeration, Air Condition and Heating and or Trade school equivalent.
Experience: Five years in mechanical maintenance and operation of HVAC and related equipment in a 750,000 plus sq ft facility with a mixed-use distribution. Skilled knowledge in high- and low-pressure boilers, hermetic and centrifugal refrigeration machines, plant water management, and energy management/building automation systems. Ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams. Proficient in the following trades: electrical, refrigeration, and piping.
Licensing: Valid Illinois Drivers' License,
Elgin or Chicago Stationary Engineer license
Refrigeration License
Pool Operator License (obtain within one year of hire)
JOB DESCRIPTION
Operates, diagnoses, inspects, repairs, replaces, services and performs preventive maintenance on utilities and HVAC equipment, such as but not limited to:
High and low-pressure boilers; steam and water traps.
Commercial size furnaces and air conditioners.
Hermetic centrifugal refrigeration machines.
Heating, cooling, chemical, sewage, storm drain and all other pumps.
Cooling towers; pipelines, valves.
Water heaters; water softeners, meters.
Motors; pumps, bearings, seals, belts.
Natural gas system.
Steam and water system.
Electrical distribution system.
Plant computerized automation system.
Other related HVAC and emergency equipment.
Prioritization of multiple issues over a 1.5M sq ft facility.
Informs co-workers regarding procedures and/orders of work orders (e.g. computerized energy management systems, researches parts/equipment, etc.) for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with health, safety, building regulations.
Prepares documentation (e.g. records of refrigerants, daily paper work, time and materials, specifications, etc.) as required for the purpose of providing written support in compliance with regulations and/or conveying information.
Installs new parts and equipment as required.
Inspects College property and observes activities on College property for unsafe conditions which may lead to injury, takes appropriate action to correct any unsafe practice or condition and reports all other potential safety hazards to supervisor.
Proficient in rebuilding pumps.
Responsible for housekeeping, cleaning and painting of respective areas and equipment
Responsible for snow and ice removal duties.
Additional duties as assigned.
Employee must be on a 7 day/24hour on call weekly rotation for emergency events.
Operates motorized vehicles including but not limited to trucks, vans, gators, and lifts.
