Diesel Mechanic Job Description The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing repairs on various types of heavy equipment, operating equipment to diagnose problems, and inspecting equipment for defects. This role requires awareness of safety precautions and the ability to understand and follow service manuals. The mechanic will assist supervisors and co-workers with a variety of tasks, order parts, write repair summaries, train personnel, and perform routine inspections, including preventative maintenance. Responsibilities Perform repairs on all types of heavy equipment. Operate equipment to diagnose problems and inspect for defects. Assist supervisors and co-workers with mechanic and related tasks. Follow safety precautions and understand occupational hazards. Understand and adhere to service manual guidelines. Order parts and complete part requisition forms accurately. Write detailed repair summaries. Train other personnel as needed. Perform routine inspections, including preventative maintenance. Execute other duties as per supervisor's discretion. Essential Skills Troubleshooting and repair skills. Welding knowledge. Experience with heavy equipment. Preventive maintenance expertise. Diesel engine maintenance. Ability to use a multi meter (12 volt & 24 volt). Experience with high-pressure hydraulics. Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose heavy equipment engines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with electrical systems, brakes, engine repair, fleet maintenance, and equipment maintenance. Ability to diagnose, service, and repair mechanical and computer electronic controls, air brake systems, transmissions, high voltage generators, propane powered equipment, and pneumatic systems. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
