TE 1: Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. TE 2-3: in addition to the above Performs complex to advanced transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Essential Duties: TE 1: Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation. Coordinates on design schematics, assists with capacity and level of service studies and reviews in-house and consultant traffic control/traffic management/intelligent transportation systems (ITS) plans and projects. Coordinates traffic engineering studies and traffic counts. Interprets manuals and required guidelines for traffic operations. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. TE 2: in addition to the above Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. Performs complex facility engineering work such as layouts, sketches, detailed plans, specifications and estimates. Coordinates on design schematics, assists with capacity and level of service studies and reviews in-house and consultant traffic control/traffic management/intelligent transportation systems (ITS) plans and projects. Coordinates traffic engineering studies and traffic counts. Designs, installs, maintains and repairs all traffic management computer/communication/video systems and/or traffic signals, radios, and railroad crossing equipment Reviews traffic engineering studies, warranting of traffic signals and speed zones. TE 3: In addition to the above Oversees and/or performs traffic engineering studies to recommend solutions for high accident locations, to warrant traffic signals and speed zones and to determine capacity and channelization of the highways. Provides technical assistance for the development of rural ITS/traffic management corridors. Responsible for Intelligent Transportation System operations. Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests. Reviews traffic engineering studies, warranting of traffic signals and speed zones.
