The Production is accepting application submissions for the Crew Head/Deck Carpenter position. Typical Performance schedule is a few multi week sit downs, week runs and some split weeks.

Key Dates:

Tech: July 7 - July 20, 2025 in Richmond, KY

Opening: July 21, 2025 in Washington, D.C.

Layoff: August 4, 2025 - September 7, 2025

Continues: September 8 - 28, 2025 in Chicago, IL

Contract Information:

The tour is being sent out under the IATSE Bus and Truck Agreement.

All candidates should possess technical experience in the appropriate department, a working knowledge of show running/maintenance, and prior experience touring. Physical requirements of the job may include standing, bending, lifting, climbing short ladders, and using stairs. We are willing to train the right candidates from non-traditional backgrounds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Touring Head Carpenter include the following:

Oversee all carpentry and scenic operations throughout the full tour lifecycle, including pre-production, technical rehearsals, active touring, load-ins/load-outs, and post-tour wrap.

Serve as the primary liaison between the carpentry department, production management, designers, and other departments to ensure the successful execution and consistency of the scenic design across all venues.

Supervise the care, maintenance, andanization of all scenic elements, rigging systems, tools, and carpentry-related equipment while on tour.

Plan and execute safe, efficient load-in/load-out strategies in coordination with venue staff, local crews, and other touring departments.

Advance each venue with local crew heads and technical management to assess venue capabilities, coordinate logistical needs, and ensure show requirements are met.

Maintain detailed carpentry paperwork including deck layouts, rigging plots, truck packs, maintenance logs, and venue-specific modifications.

Train and supervise local carpentry crews at each stop, ensuring all scenic elements are installed and struck according to show standards and safety protocols.

Troubleshoot and resolve technical or structural issues quickly and effectively during load-ins, performances, and strikes.

Ensure all backstage and onstage scenic areas are safe, clean, andpliant with safety guidelines and production standards.

Manage carpentry department budget tracking, inventory control, and material sourcing needs as required while on tour.

Collaborate with other department heads to maintain an efficient and cooperative backstage environment.

Other duties as assigned by the Production Manager or Company Management.

Qualifications:

Relevant experience in carpentry, props, and rigging

Experience building, maintaining and repairing scenic and prop elements

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Ability to work long hours, including nights and weekends while touring.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Excellentmunication and interpersonal skills.

Salary & Benefits:

$1,200 / week: Overtime per IATSE Bus and Truck Agreement

The normal pay week is Monday - Sunday

Call Length:

Theatrical calls are booked at a minimum of 4 hours, in whole hour increments.
