ABOUT THE POSITION

The Clark County Department of Real Property Management is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the HVAC Mechanic position. As a member of our team, you will perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, including the installation of associated piping and refrigerant lines. This position also installs and maintains electrical, electronic, and pneumatic information and control systems associated with HVAC equipment and systems. The ideal candidate will contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.

This position performs maintenance, repair, and construction at all facilities across Clark County which could include detention facilities, court facilities, family/youth/recreation facilities, rural locations, coroner's office and morgue, and campus locations. This position could also be subject to shift work that includes nights, evenings, and weekends.

THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 250 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AND WILL CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE ONCE THAT NUMBER IS REACHED.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND six (6) years of skilled experience in the HVAC trade. Successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an HVAC mechanic may be substituted for four (4) years of the required experience. Attendance at a recognized trade school is desirable, as is experience with heating, cooling and refrigeration systems and equipment in an industrial or plant setting.

All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application.Do notsubstitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application. Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Work in confined spaces, with exposure to heat or potentially hazardous materials.

Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Class C Nevada Driver's License at time of appointment. Must possess EPA approved certification for refrigerant handling. Specific positions require Class G certification for Nevada fire sprinkler systems testing.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Participates in the design, layout and installation of office, public facility, shop, plant and other remodeling, repair or modification projects affecting County buildings and facilities; takes measurements; prepares working drawings and sketches; assists in preparing project specifications.
  • Estimates materials, parts, tools and equipment needed for work assignments; orders and picks up materials and supplies from outside vendors as appropriate; prepares cost estimates for job.
  • Performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, including the installation of associated piping and refrigerant lines.
  • Installs and maintains electrical, electronic and pneumatic information and control systems associated with HVAC equipment; observes safety precautions when working with energized equipment.
  • Inspects, maintains and repairs high- and low-pressure boiler and related piping and control equipment; cleans boilers and treats water as required.
  • Performs welding, brazing and soldering tasks as required for installation and repair duties.
  • Inspects refrigerant equipment for proper operation; recharges equipment as required.
  • Ensures that all installation, maintenance and repair work is performed to code.
  • Tests and troubleshoots HVAC system malfunctions, repairs or orders and replaces components, and tests equipment prior to placing back into service.
  • Reads diagrams, blueprints, specifications and manuals for installation and repair projects.
  • Maintains and services hand and power tools related to the trade; keeps small inventory of frequently used supplies and parts.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • May direct the work of less skilled assistants on specific projects; ensures that proper safety precautions are followed.
  • May inspect, maintain and repair fire sprinkler systems.
  • Maintains records of work performed and materials used.
  • Drives County vehicles to work sites and transports materials and assistants as required; may work from lift trucks and other aerial devices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in a typical shop or related maintenance setting, including operating typical trade equipment, hand and power tools and standard office equipment, and to drive a motor vehicle to various work sites; stamina to stand, walk and climb and to work in confined or awkward spaces for an extended period of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone.
