JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Vehicle Mechanic

Reports To: Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor

Department: Vehicle Maintenance

Classification: FT/Year-Round

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Performs maintenance and modifications on vehicles, snowcats, heavy equipment, ATVs and snowmobiles.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs repair work on:
    • Gasoline and diesel engines.
    • Hydrostatic drives.
    • Hydraulic systems.
    • Gear and final drives.
    • Brakes.
    • Winch systems.
    • Electrical systems.
  • Performs limited welding and acetylene cutting.
  • Maintains required maintenance records (hours, materials, prices).
  • Orders and stocks parts.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Capable of overseeing special projects as needed

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY:

  • Responsible for trouble shooting and repairing equipment in a timely manner with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to perform welding and acetylene cutting.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Skilled in the use of mechanical tools, materials, welding, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to comply and follow company safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and other departments.

EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:

  • High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be familiar with the safe operation of snowmobiles, snow cats, four-wheel drive pickups, heavy equipment, and ATVs on the mountain.
  • Must have two years experience repairing equipment or demonstrate similar knowledge.
  • Must be proficient as a class B mechanic.

MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:

  • Typical mechanic hand and power tools - wrenches, grinders, welders, acetylene torch, vehicle test equipment.
  • Parts and service manuals.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Office and automotive shop environment.
  • Repairs are sometimes performed outside, often in extreme weather conditions.
  • Physical requirements: heavy lifting, bending, reaching, and turning.
  • May be required to hike mountainous terrain to repair equipment.
