Youth Development Site Coordinator for Afterschool and Summer Middle School Program, Salem Public Schools, Salem, MA
Hours and Compensation: Full-time (40 hours/week); $22.40-$30.80 an hour Location: Salem, MA
LEAP for Education and Salem Public Schools partner to provide an afterschool and summer middle school program that aims to create a safe, welcoming space for middle school students to participate in learning opportunities that are fun, engaging, project-based and have an academic and creative focus. The programming seeks to enhance students' academic, social emotional, and career readiness skills.
The Expanding Horizons (EH) program for grade 6-8 students supports youth from diverse populations and backgrounds. The EH Site Coordinator will be employed by LEAP for Education (a nonprofit based in Salem) at a Senior Professional level position that will report to the Middle School Teams' School Year Manager. The Site Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day program operations, supervising short-term staff and volunteers, communicating with students and families, and working closely with other LEAP and district staff on the program design and offerings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Supervising group leaders, Student Success Advisors, project-based learning (PBL) and enrichment instructors (some school teachers and some community partners), and often college and HS interns.
- Providing oversight of teachers' implementation of learning experiences guided by unit plans developed in collaboration with LEAP's Director of MS School Programs and MS Managers with input from district staff.
- Collaborating with the Director of Middle School Programs, MS Manager, and rest of LEAP's MS team to plan new programming, new session offerings, retention strategies, and special programming in response to areas for growth and to add fun surprises for the students.
- Planning and organizing a choice of Activity Stations (last 40 min of program) each day that engage students and offer learning opportunities.
- Communicating with families around outreach and enrollment, program events, attendance and any behavior challenges
- Planning and running staff meetings
- Managing logistics for snacks, supplies, and transportation and use of school facilities
- Collection of data including attendance and DESE SAYO assessments
- Updating and managing transportation lists with transportation department
- Actively contributing to any program staff hiring and training
- Attending professional development opportunities from DESE and other organizations, as schedule allows
- Working with the Middle School Manager to get needed program supplies within the program budget.
- Working with the Middle School Manager on various event planning and parent engagement initiatives
- Other duties as requested by the Middle School Manager
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS
- 3-5 or more years of experience in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Sociology, or other related fields
- Teaching, counseling, or youth development experience required, preferably with students ages 11 - 14
- Strong interpersonal skills with youth
- Some prior experience running programs or special initiatives within programs preferred
- Some prior supervisory experience preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity, developing an equity-lens, and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
- Must be extremely organized and detail-oriented
- Bilingual in Spanish is very helpful but not required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Google platforms and MS Office- particularly MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Must have access to reliable transportation and/or a current driver's license for days when travel is required
