Pay Range
$50.28 - $61.57 Hourly
This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employees position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
We have an opening for a Treatment Facility Operator to support environmental restoration at our Livermore Site. You will operate and maintain groundwater and soil vapor treatment facilities and extraction wells, construct new and replacement facilities and pipelines, install groundwater pumps, prepare and maintain regulatory records/logs, collect and submit water and air samples. This position is in the Environmental Restoration Department.
This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.
You will
- Perform maintenance, complex troubleshooting and/or repair of wells and operate groundwater and soil vapor treatment facilities; install, operate, and perform routine maintenance on fluid and vapor flow systems, chemical reaction systems, mechanical equipment, and other test instrumentation; prepare orders for sampling and treatment facility materials.
- Provide advanced technical support to scientists, engineers, and senior technical personnel in the construction, operation and maintenance of groundwater and soil vapor treatment facilities.
- Collect groundwater and soil vapor samples for scientific analysis, prepare chain of custody and other tracking forms, and package and deliver samples to established courier service pickup point.
- Monitor soil vapor treatment media using organic vapor analyzers to ensure regulatory compliance, calibrate scientific equipment, and record measurements.
- Solve complex technical problems and make appropriate decisions; provide recommendations for process improvement procedures, techniques and guidelines.
- Perform tasks in accordance with ES&H policies and procedures; ensure compliance with all federal, state, and LLNL environmental regulatory requirements and policies.
- Perform system testing and facility treatability studies, collect test information, and prepare documentation for reporting results.
- Operate a pump truck, forklift, ATV, and tractor; pull trailers and tanks, and perform off-road driving; perform field operations in varying weather conditions and in remote locations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Associate degree in environmental or mechanical technology or other relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and significant related experience.
- Significant experience with and advanced mechanical skills and knowledge of piping, plumbing, reading blueprints, machining, tooling and pump repair; knowledge of pressurized system operations and maintenance.
- Specialized and advanced technical knowledge and understanding of remediation operations such as ground water remediation, treatment unit operations, maintenance, installation, and development; knowledge of well operations, equipment, maintenance, and environmental sampling techniques.
- Knowledge of and experience with the use of a broad range of environmental monitoring equipment such as pH and conductivity meters.
- Experience identifying, recommending solutions, and resolving complex technical problems using decision making, field experience and judgement; ability to work alone or as part of a team in varying field conditions.
- Advanced knowledge of and experience in the application of Safety regulations; evaluating work hazards and establishing safety standards to assure the public, workers, and environment are protected from adverse consequences; knowledge of regulatory requirements governing remediation activities such as the regulatory agency permit process for air and water quality.
- Intermediate computer skills using both Macintosh and Windows platforms for operating groundwater treatment facilities, completing reports, and inputting monthly data and test results; good record keeping skills and experience.
- Possess effective written, verbal, feedback, communication, and presentation skills to effectively convey technical information to a wide range of employees and subcontractors; ability to independently initiate and complete technical projects.
- Ability to obtain OSHA HAZWOPER certification; ability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs. in a safe and controlled manner; ability to become medically qualified to wear a respiratory; possess a valid drivers license.
Qualifications We Desire
- Familiarity with the LLNL Site 200 or Site 300 environmental restoration operations.
- Knowledge of Integrated Safety Management (ISM) requirements; hazardous waste disposal policies and procedures for environmental contaminants.
- Experience off-road driving a 4x4 truck; minor welding skills and machine tool operations and fabrications.

Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
