The Electrician is responsible for installing, monitoring, and repairing the electrical systems of the organization. He/she will be required to travel as requested for project work at other GreenWood, Inc. locations outside of the state of WV.
Responsibilities
- Connects power cables to equipment and installs grounding leads
- Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools
- Disassembles and repairs defective electrical equipment or systems
- Installs control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels, and fastens in place with screws or bolts using hand or power tools
- Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit using such tools as a hacksaw, pipe threader, rules, and conduit benders
- Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement
- Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring
- Pulls wiring through conduit assisted by helper
- Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps
- Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope
- Plans, lays out, installs, and repairs wiring, conduit, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment
- Loads, transports, and unloads material, tools, equipment, and supplies
- Maintains tools and equipment
- Wears PPE and uses safety equipment as required
- Observes and complies with all safety and project rules
- Rates information using personal judgement or standards that can be measured or checked
- Ensures all safety procedures, practices, and regulations are followed before, during, and after the process to foster a positive safety culture by having a safety-first mindset and approach during execution of activities
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- At least two years of combined training and experience as an industrial electrician or in electrical work
- Journeyman license required, which meets the minimum requirements in the field (usually 8000 hours) and time in an approved classroom setting (usually 700 hours) or an equivalent combination of experience and education
- Able to make and understand mathematical calculations
- Must be able to distinguish colors
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience demonstrating successful support of a positive safety culture
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation(s)
