POSITION TITLE: Roofer/Tile Setter

REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs roofing and tile setting duties, including surface preparation, adhesive and material application. Preforms tuck-pointing and masonry surface repair and preparation.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions

  1. Chooses correct materials required to complete assigned projects.
  2. Patches roof leaks and maintains roof systems in safe and weatherproof condition on all District buildings.
  3. Cleans, repairs, and maintains all building guttering systems on a monthly basis; water blasts building walls that are stained by leaking gutters.
  4. Performs maintenance, repair and/or replacement of carpeting and cove base in classrooms and halls throughout District.
  5. Performs skilled journeyman roofing/tile setting tasks in accordance with practices of the trade, and in a conscientious and safe manner.
  1. Performs all tuck-pointing and brick/stone repair in accordance with practices of the trade, and in a conscientious and safe manner.
  2. Performs waterproofing to any masonry surface needed.
  3. Performs all asbestos abatement and mold remediation as needed throughout the district.

Marginal Functions

  1. Maintains building skylights throughout District by patching holes or cracks.
  2. May build or repair sheet metal products, as time permits.
  3. Performs all other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Maintenance.
  4. May assist with snow removal from District parking lots, as required.

Physical/Visual Activities or Demands: Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  1. Standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, or crouching, kneeling, crawling, reaching, pushing,grasping, feeling, talking, hearing.
  1. Normal attention with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less as well as 20 feet or more, and ability to adjust eye to bring object into sharp focus, required.
  2. Moderate physical demand with regular lifting of light (1 to 25 lbs.) items by hand and occasional lifting of average to heavy (25lbs. to over 60 lbs.) by hand or with mechanical assistance.

Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions: Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. Subject to both inside and outside working conditions, with exposure to; noise sufficient to make it necessary to shout, a variety of physical hazards such as proximity to electrical current and/or moving mechanical parts, adverse atmospheric conditions with at least four presents to the extent of being disagreeable at times. May be required to wear a respirator. Travel between buildings required.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  1. Knowledge of the principles of roofing, ceiling/floor replacement, tuckpointing as well as asbestos removal and mold remediation.
  2. Use of basic tools and equipment of the trade, requiring basic skills knowledge.
  3. Equivalent to graduation from a general or technical high school.
  4. Must hold certifications in mold remediation and asbestos removal or attain within a year of hire.

Experience: Requires a minimum of three years of experience as a journeyman roofer or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

  1. Apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
  2. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure. Perform the operations with like common and decimal fractions. Compute ratio, rate, and percent.
  3. Perform reading, writing, and speaking at a basic level.

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

Variety of electric powered and roofing and tuck-pointing hand tools, roof stretcher, bucket truck.
