Description & Details:

Responsible to perform duties associated with the operation of four high pressure steam generating water tube boilers, two of which use natural gas/oil as fuel sources, two of which use coal as fuel sources, with a total capability of producing in excess of 200,000 pounds of steam per hour; Inspect, adjust and measure levels, throughout the Heating Plant, used in the production of steam and make-up of condensate return. Observe and adjust high pressure steam output to the steam distribution system. Inspect, adjust, control and operate auxiliary Heating Plant equipment such as air compressors, diesel electrical generators, water treatment systems, augers, conveyors skid steer/front end loaders and dump trucks, along with ash handling system to include pulling of ash as necessary. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on boilers, machinery and equipment as assigned to the operator shift; such as greasing of grates and stokers, blow down of water glass and column and mud drums, check oil levels, belts and bearings, etc. Responsible for maintaining records, logs and the operation of computerized automated boiler control system for the Heating Plant. Responsible for supervision of staff assigned to the shift to assist in plant operations.

Work Schedule:

Position requires rotating 8-hour shifts. Shift times are 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. Nights, weekends, holiday availability is a requirement for employment consideration.

Hiring Range: $55,165 - $57,000 +DOE

Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1-year college - Industrial Technology / Trade Program
  • Understanding of high-pressure steam generation theory, combustion processes, computer literacy, safety, preventive, and general maintenance
  • 3 years of boiler operating experience will satisfy the college requirement

Minimum Licenses/ Certifications:

  • Boiler License or certificate comparable to Minnesota 1st Class B or higher

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer three years of supervisory experience to include close and effective supervision of full-time equivalent employees.

Preferred Licenses/ Certifications:

  • Commercial Driver's License with air brakes
  • Boiler license equivalent to the Minnesota Chief B
