Full Time, Benefitted, Non-ExemptThe City of Laramie is accepting applications for a Utility Operation and Maintenance Worker/Operator or Senior Operator. This position performs a variety of duties including installing, maintaining, repairing, and cleaning facilities involving wastewater treatment, collection, water treatment, distribution, and water pumps. They also install, test, and repair water meters and backflow devices, and perform meter reading. Come work in our brand-new Utility Facility! We'll pay for your Class A CDL licensing, study materials and operator license fees, $300 annually towards clothing and $200 towards steel toe boots, plus the cost to send you to conferences for your certifications. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of the collection, distribution, and meter systems for the water and wastewater systems.Operate excavators, backhoe's, dump trucks, vac trucks, jackhammers, large pumps. Ability to use Utility technologies such as operation of a magnetic locator, leak detection equipment, hydrant pressure gauge, pipe threader, confined space ventilation blower, flaring tools, tapping machine, water main hot tapping machine, etc.Demonstrates the ability to learn and adhere to the Wyoming DEQ and EPA rules and regulations, OSHA, MUTCD, Wyoming State Statutes, City of Laramie Ordinances, and any other governing rules which impact practices of operations. Ability to travel to different sites and locations.Available for on call, stand-by, and emergency call.Senior Utility Operations and Maintenance Operator may be assigned areas of concentration such as safety training, Utility locates, backflow testing and repair, CCTV operation, line washing, GIS mapping updates, inventory or any other special project and will supervise the workflow associated in collaboration with the Supervisor and Crew Leader for staff assignments and support to ensure success of an area of concentration. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:High school diploma or GED. Current Wyoming driver license.Continued employment is contingent upon the following:Obtain Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within the first 9 months of date of hire. Obtain level I Distribution and level 1 Collection certifications within the first 12 months of date of hire.Obtain level II Distribution and level II Collection certifications within 24 months of hire date. Senior Utility Operations and Maintenance Operator must have three years of increasingly responsible experience in a Utility related system such as collections, distribution, meters, water treatment, pumps and wells or wastewater or a closely associated field, such as construction, plumbing, project management.
