THE POSITION

The State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Laurel Highlands is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor to join our team! In this role, you will instruct inmates in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems and air conditioning systems. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor, you will supervise and instruct inmates in a structured classroom and on-the-job training program in the refrigeration mechanic trade at SCI Laurel Highlands. This will include the standard practices and procedures of the trade involving the installation, repair, inspection, and maintenance of refrigeration, air conditioning, heating systems, computer controls of those systems, and related equipment. In this position, you will plan and assign daily inmate schedules and inspect completed work assignments. Work will be received in the form of work orders which may be accompanied by diagrams, drawings, sketches, or blueprints. You can expect to independently determine procedures, tools, equipment, and materials to be used by inmates in carrying out assignments. Additionally, you will be responsible for the care, custody, and control of inmates during training and work assignments.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $50,846.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems or air conditioning systems;or
Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade;or
An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.
Special Requirements:
You must have possession of an active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate issued by an approved provider.
Other Requirements:
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
You must meet thePA residency requirement. For more information on ways to meet PA residency requirements, follow the linkand click on Residency.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
