The City of Sheridan is actively recruiting a motivated and customer-service focused individual with management and leadership skills for the position of **Solid Waste Superintendent** to join the team. This position is responsible for the supervision and management of the Utilities Department's Solid Waste Division, consisting of Sanitation, Recycling, and Landfill operations. The ideal candidate will have strong supervisory skills, great character, and be a critical thinker.

**MAJOR DUTIES**

- Manages the City's Landfill operations, residential and commercial sanitation services, and existing landfill, expansion landfill, closed landfill, waste collections department, recycling center, compost facility, and household hazardous waste facility.

- Oversees and administers capital improvement projects and contracts.

- Establishes and submits annual budgets, operational changes, and reports status of expenses to the Utilities Director and City Council for approval.

- Oversees and administers regular financial modeling updates for the City's Solid Waste Fund in order to recommend rate adjustments.

- Ensures the Landfill financial assurance analysis is current and up to date.

- Hires, trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.

- Develops and oversees the division training program.

- Ensures that division operations are in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations; serves as liaison with regulatory agencies.

- Establishes and oversees contracts with consulting services.

- Communicates with the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ) on matters involving the landfill.

- Coordinates and oversees permit renewals with the W-DEQ. Solid Waste Superintendent

- Provides certification and training for the 40 hr HAZWOPER to staff as required by 40 CFR 1910.120

- Evaluates landfill tipping fees, collection fees, recycling fees, and other fees; prepares and submits rate recommendations to the Utilities Director as is necessary.

- Oversees compliance monitoring and coordinates remediation activities.

- Oversees divisional expansion, future planning, and operational improvements.

- Works with Engineering Division project managers and consultants on capital projects and contracts related to the Solid Waste Division. ? Assists the preparation of information being presented to the City Council on matters related to the Solid Waste Division.

- Oversees Divisional operations relating to customer service, complaint resolution, and public education.

- Makes presentations to City Council, the public, and civic groups.

- Performs resource need assessments for Solid Waste Division operations.

- Develops short- and long-term plans to ensure efficient, effective, and sustainable operations of the Solid Waste Division.

- Performs related duties.
