Plumber

The Plumber is with the Parks & Recreation Department and performs skilled work involved in the repair and maintenance of plumbing systems, fixtures, and appliances or performs the more difficult and complex work in the operation and repair of large industrial water meters and related equipment.

Some overtime and weekend work may be required.

  • Installing water services from mains to meter boxes
  • Tapping water pipes under pressure
  • Cutting threads and making flares
  • Fitting and installing pipes
  • Cleaning clogged pipes and drains
  • Repairing damaged pipes and fixtures
  • Reading and interpreting diagrams and blueprints
  • Estimating projects
  • Maintaining current knowledge of codes, regulations, etc.
  • Maintaining accurate records, reports and logs as required
  • Ordering materials
  • Operating a ditch digger or other excavation equipment if needed
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of general plumbing experience, meter repair or industrial mechanical equipment installation or repair experience.

LICENSE REQUIRED:

Valid Driver License

Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
  • Experience operating a ditch digger, backhoe, and other excavation equipment
  • Experience installing water devices from mains to meter boxes
  • Experience using fittings and fixtures associated with piping
  • Proficiency with plumbing applications and tools (Pro press, expansion tools, crimp, valves and pumps)
  • Experience training support personnel
  • Experience researching and selecting proper materials
  • Plumber License or Certification
