Responsibilities: The General Laborer/Fiber Puller supports mainline fiber optic construction crews by performing manual labor tasks required for underground and aerial fiber installation. This role is critical to safely and efficiently pulling fiber, setting up job sites and ensuring that project specifications are met.
- Assist in pulling fiber optic cable through conduit (underground) or along strand (aerial).
- Safely handle and transport fiber reels and pulling equipment.
- Set up and operate fiber pullers, capstans and winches under supervision.
- Set up safety barriers, signage, and traffic control as needed.
- Excavate, backfill and compact trenches manually or with equipment.
- Assist linemen, drillers, splicers, or heavy equipment operators as directed.
- Haul materials and supplies to and from work areas.
- Help verify fiber routing and pulling plans before work begins.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid drivers license with a driving record that meets the companys minimum safety standards.
- Prior construction or telecommunications experience is preferred.
- Basic understanding of fiber optic construction practices is a plus.
- Able to meet physical requirements: climb ladders, work in confined spaces and/or various heights, lift and/or move up to 50 lbs., squat, kneel, bend, crawl and stand for long periods of time.
- Able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Self-starter with a positive attitude and willingness to work.
- Willingness to obtain certifications (OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, Flagging, etc.).
Schedule:
- Regularly scheduled to work 40 hours a week.
- Willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays as needed in addition to regular travel. As part of your job duties, you may be required to travel depending on the project needs. When work is slower in your market, there may be an occasion that you would be asked to travel to another market location to help with the workload either in state or out of state.
