Arizona G&T Cooperatives: Our Story

Arizona G&T Cooperatives operate on a not-for-profit basis. Arizona G&T Cooperatives are two electric cooperatives owned by the members we serve. Our members include six electric distribution cooperatives that distribute electric power to their own residential and commercial consumers at the end of the line.

Day to day as a Plant Electrician

As a new Plant Electrician at Arizona G&T Cooperatives, you can expect a dynamic daily routine filled with hands-on electrical maintenance and repair tasks. Your responsibilities will include troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical issues, performing routine inspections, and ensuring optimal operation of plant equipment. You'll be actively involved in implementing safety protocols and adhering to industry standards. You will collaborate with a dedicated team of professionals, engaging in problem-solving discussions to innovate and enhance our operations.

Each day typically consists of working four, 10-hour days, providing you with a structured yet flexible schedule. Prepare for a high-performance environment where your contributions are valued, and you have the opportunity to continuously learn and grow in the energy sector.

A high school diploma or recognized equivalent is essential, along with the completion of a recognized 4-year apprenticeship program. You must demonstrate the ability to disassemble and assemble electric motors of all sizes and possess a working knowledge of 480 and 4160 Volt Switchgear.

Familiarity with electrical and electronic systems related to power systems is crucial, as is your ability to read and interpret schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals. You should be adept at working on electrical circuits specific to Cooperative equipment and capable of developing your own working specifications. Your understanding of tools, materials, and safety standards, particularly OSHA regulations, will ensure that you adhere to best practices in your duties.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Ability to develop own working specifications and determine special tools or procedures required to complete jobs within the general scope of the trade, including efficient planning of shop work.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of application and use of tools, materials, equipment and standard practices of trade.
  • Ability to train and/or orient other personnel.
  • Ability to perform maintenance and repairs on a call-out basis.
  • Extensive knowledge of hazards and applicable safety methods in area of responsibility.
