Fleet Superintendent

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a managerial position requiring the use of management tools. This work involves managing the Fleet division's vehicles and equipment services, maintenance, repairs, budget objectives, performance measures, asset acquisitions, purchasing, replacement, and disposal. Maintains a strict priority system for maintenance and repairs of City owned vehicles and equipment. Has responsibility of managing record keeping and report systems, maintaining preventive maintenance schedules, ordering, stocking inventory of vehicles and equipment bench stock supplies. Makes frequent decisions requiring sound and mature judgments, coordinated OJT and safety programs. Has frequent contact with other governmental entities, daily contact with other city officers, and the general public that requires the exercise of tact and diplomacy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs the operation of Fleet Services daily activities and functions.

• Constantly monitors the Fleet division's operations seeking ways to improve, refine, enhance capabilities, safety, or reduce costs.

• Plans, directs, and evaluates operations and activities and develops recommendations for service improvements and modifications for equipment and vehicles.

• Works with other City staff to assist in the process of their vehicle and equipment purchases, replacement forecasting, and disposal.

• Plan, organize, create, and maintain yearly replacement forecasted reports on all City vehicles and equipment.

• Ensures that all standard safety procedures and practices relative to auto shop operations are followed and carried out.

• Assists Fleet & Facility Services Director in developing Fleet budget measures and objectives.

• Participates in the interview/hiring process, counsels employees, evaluates and recommends termination and promotion of personnel.

• Assist Director in development of Fleet division and attends various training and development courses to maintain proficiency within all current Fleet activities.

• Coordinates OJT and City Safety programs.

• Monitors all activities of Fleet division and provides monthly reports and information as needed to Director.

• Performs duties of Foreman when the position is vacant or unavailable.

• Performs other job related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• A High School Diploma or GED required. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.

• Requires five (5) years of auto shop supervisory or management experience.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

• Valid Class B Texas Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within six (6) months of appointment to this position.

• State of Texas Vehicle Inspector License or be able to obtain one within six (6) months of appointment to this position.

• 609 Refrigeration Certification or be able to obtain within six (6) months from hire date

• CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Systems) Clearance Certification – must pass upon hiring.

The following EVT certifications are required or be able to obtain within three (3) years of appointment to this position ;

• Fire Apparatus Technician Level I Certification – Requires four (4) exams to qualify

ASE Exams - T4 (Truck, Brakes), and ASE T5 (Truck, Suspension and Steering)

EVT Exams – F1 (Maintenance, Inspection, and Testing of Fire Apparatus), and F2 (Designs & Performance Standards of Fire Apparatus)

• Ambulance Technician Level I Certification – Requires four (4) exams to qualify

ASE Exams – A-4 (Automobile, Suspension and Steering), and A-5 (Automobile, Brakes)

EVT Exams – E-0 (Maintenance, Inspection, and Testing of Ambulances) E-1 (Design & Performance of Ambulances)

• Law Enforcement Vehicle Installation – The City of Schertz requires two (2) exams

ASE Exam – A-6 (Automobile, Electrical Systems)

EVT Exam - L-1 (Law Enforcement Vehicle Installation)

• EVT Management Level I – Requires one (1) exam to qualify

EVT Management Level I - M-1 (Level 1 Exam)
