Immediate Supervisor: Director of Maintenance

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times
  • Must be able to design, plan, install, and repair designated equipment in a way that will ensure the health and safety of the District

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D desired and a Valid Texas Driver's License

Education/Certification:

  • Must possess a Journeyman Plumbing license
  • Master license (preferred)

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience as a full-time licensed Journeyman plumber
  • Two of these years must be served as a maintenance plumber

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Personal and professional experience in working with the general public and school officials
  • Able to follow instructions given
  • Must be able to read and correctly interpret plumbing blueprints
  • Ability to repair and/or maintain gas hot water heaters, sweat copper, mixing valves, hand washing stations, back-flow preventers, water coolers, circulation pumps, flush valves, and faucets
  • Able to keep up with all the new material in use in the field of plumbing
  • Knowledge of water and sewer piping
  • Ability to assist in the transformation of plans into a completed product
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE CTE AND FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT:

  • Maintain all safety and code requirements of the State, local, and Board of Education guidelines
  • May be required to be on a 24-hour call-out
  • Accurately order and account for material and labor related to assignments
  • Maintain and use safely and efficiently the materials, equipment, and all other properties of the school district as directed by the maintenance supervisor
  • Analyze the sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete all repairs as indicated
  • Modify and install new lines
  • Seal leaking joints
  • Establish an efficient and effective system of preventive maintenance on equipment, all plumbing installations, and facilities in the district
  • Replace defective pipes and fittings
  • Receive and complete work orders for a specific job and site
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

  • Small and large sewer machines
  • Shovel and hammer drill

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to knuckle height on an occasional basis or 1 to 3 times a day
  • Sustain standing tolerance up to 7 hours a day and walking tolerance up to .75 miles a day
  • Ability to climb a minimum of 25 steps, average height 8 inches and climb 6, 8, or 10-foot ladders
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Gross body mechanics (balance) i.e., walking, standing on a ladder, etc.
  • Repetitive forward reaching up to 30 times an hour, repetitive overhead reaching up to 20 times an hour, and repetitive forward bending up to 20 times an hour. Repetitive stooping up to 30 times an hour, repetitive kneeling up to 30 times an hour, and repetitive handling and gripping of various objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Sustain exposure tolerance up to 5 minutes, sustain forward reaching tolerance up to 5 minutes, sustain overhead reaching tolerance up to 5 minutes, sustain forward bending tolerance up to 30 minutes, sustain stooping tolerance up to 20 minutes, and sustain kneeling tolerance up to 20 minutes

Work Environment:

  • Duties are performed 60% indoors and 40% outdoors
  • Indoor duties are performed in a "thermostatically" controlled climate
  • Outdoor duties are performed in a "seasonable" climate
  • Overhead fluorescent fixtures provide indoor lighting
  • Outdoor lighting is "natural" during daylight hours
  • Incandescent lamps are provided during dark or evening hours
  • Noise levels are low to moderate, and exposure is greatest during the operation of power tools
  • Low-level exposure to vibration exists during the use of task-specific equipment, contact with motorized equipment, and localized operation of various mechanical equipment
  • Indoor walking surfaces are level concrete covered with linoleum, ceramic tiles, or carpet
  • Outdoor walking surfaces are finished or unfinished concrete and "natural" with some variations in grade and composition
  • Exposure to fumes and chemicals is infrequent, with some exposure during the use of drain cleaning solvents
  • Safety devices are used, and ventilation is provided by open-air ventilation and central air and heat systems
