About the Job\:

The Project Manager of Operations Support – Processing Pumping Systems & Design Specialist (all division office locations) is a critical role responsible for overseeing and optimizing the design, modification, and implementation of large freshwater, wastewater, sand slurry, and dredging pumping systems across Vulcan Materials enterprise-wide mining operations. This role requires extensive experience ensuring the reliability and efficiency of pumping systems, and providing enterprise-wide technical leadership.

What You'll Do\:

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the SME (Subject Matter Expert) on all operations pumping systems and designs enterprise-wide.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight on the design, installation, and maintenance of pumping systems.
  • Lead and mentor engineering teams to ensure best practices in pumping system design and operation.

System Design and Modification

  • Oversee the design and modification of pumping systems to enhance efficiency and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate pumping systems with other mining infrastructure.

Enterprise Responsibility

  • Develop and implement enterprise-wide standards and protocols for pumping systems.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to mining sites enterprise wide.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize pumping system performance and reduce operational costs.

Fines Recovery

  • Develop foundational knowledge and practical experience in aggregate fine recovery processes, including design, implementation, and strategic applications. Under the guidance of a subject matter expert, support efforts to reduce settling pond volumes, understand cost impacts, and enhance water treatment efficiency.

Travel and Site Support

  • Travel extensively (50% or more overnight travel) to various mining sites enterprise-wide to provide on-the-ground support and technical expertise.
  • Conduct site assessments and audits to ensure pumping systems are operating optimally.
  • Facilitate training and knowledge transfer to local engineering teams.

What We're Looking For\:

Education\:

A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field is required. An advanced degree is preferred.

Experience\:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the mining industry, as a pumping systems and designs Subject Matter Expert.
  • Extensive experience in the design, modification, and optimization of industrial pumping systems within mining operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and mentor engineering teams.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in the use of engineering software and tools related to pumping systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
