Job Summary
The Senior Electrical Engineer, Product Support - Power Electronics Systems will provide engineering support across the design, development, production, and customer support phases of Aircraft Power Control (APC) power electronics systems. This role focuses on applying a strong understanding of electrical circuits and components to prevent and resolve manufacturing and field issues, identify root causes and implement corrective actions, drive design and process improvements, address component obsolescence, and conduct verification testing for design changes.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
Perform hands-on engineering support for airborne electrical products.
Address and resolve manufacturing and field-related issues, ensuring minimal impact to production and customer operations.
Evaluate and propose design and process improvements, especially in response to recurring or high-impact issues.
Product Design & Verification
Assist with the evaluation and resolution of component obsolescence and propose suitable alternatives.
Conduct verification testing and analysis related to design changes or performance concerns.
Operate standard lab equipment for design validation and electrical circuit testing.
Preventive Engineering
Proactively identify potential technical risks before product release to production.
Support the transition from development to production by evaluating design robustness and manufacturability.
Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions
Lead and contribute to root cause investigations for product failures.
Define and implement corrective actions in coordination with cross-functional teams.
Documentation & Data Review
Review, prepare, and analyze engineering documents, test data, and technical drawings.
Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable standards.
Component Engineering & Alternatives
Coordinate efforts related to the identification and integration of alternate components due to obsolescence or supply chain constraints.
Support related qualification and design verification testing.
Project Participation & Collaboration
Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams in the analysis, development, and qualification of products.
Organize and participate in cross-functional design and improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering from an accredited institution.
Strong knowledge of electronic/electrical circuits and components, with the ability to analyze schematics and circuit operations.
Familiarity with DO-160 and other industry standards.
Proficiency in schematic tools, enterprise tools, and standard simulation software.
Demonstrates proficiency (typically five+ years of direct experience with the above responsibilities.
Employment Eligibility Requirements
- As a US Department of Defense Contractor, Astronics is bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Must be a US Person under ITAR to be eligible.
- An offer of employment is contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment background screen and drug test which includes screening for the use of cannabis.
Base salary range is $102,687 - $154,031 per year. (Mid-point is $128,359).
