HDR is looking for a Senior Traffic Engineer to join our South Carolina Area Transportation Business Group. This role may be based out of any of the following South Carolina Area offices: Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, or Fort Mill. In this role, we'll count on you to:
- Lead a team of engineers and EITs to deliver a variety of traffic-related projects, including capacity analysis reports, traffic forecasting, simulation modeling, roadway design support, signal design, transit design support, and more.
- Work as a Task Lead under the direction of a Project Engineer/Manager or serve as a Project Manager as needed.
- Conduct operational traffic analysis using a variety of modeling tools, ranging from highway capacity software to complex micro simulation models.
- Analyze everything from isolated intersections and roundabouts to urban arterials and freeway segments.
- Participate in traffic signal design and traffic signal timing projects, including but not limited to, drafting signal plans, conducting field visits, preparing signal timing calculations, developing quantity takeoffs and preparing cost estimates.
- Provide technical support to junior staff.
- Take a proactive approach to learning, developing your skillset, and understanding the industry.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering is preferred
- Diverse experience in related fields such as toll roads, roadway design, or construction is a plus
- Supplemental licensure, such as PTOE and/or RSP are preferred
- Computer skills using Microsoft Office, Synchro/Sim Traffic, HCS, Vissim/Visum, ArcGIS, TransModeler, AutoCAD and MicroStation
- Ability to multitask while working on many projects at once
- Local candidates are preferred

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- A minimum of 10 years' experience in ITS and traffic engineering for urban and rural highways, major and minor interchanges and intersections
- Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license
- Knowledge of regulations of state and federal transportation agencies
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Experience using HCS, CORSIM, Synchro/SIM Traffic and other software packages
- Strong oral and written communication skills, presentation skills and ability to work in a team environment
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
