Carpenter Masonry Concrete Finisher Street

Individual works under the direction of the Carpenter Foreman and will be responsible for building cabinets, laying tile, painting, hanging sheetrock, laying blocks, brick, pipe, setting forms, pouring and finishing concrete. Individual will also perform other department duties that may be assigned.
- Performs carpenter duties consisting of laying tile floors, hanging sheetrock, replacing windows, hanging doors, painting, building shelves, building simple structures, and other carpentry duties that may be assigned.
- Assists in demolishing structures.
- Performs maintenance on other city buildings as needed (Art Center, Popes Tavern, City Hall, Handy Museum, and the Indian Mound).
- Pours and finishes concrete.
- Builds highway boxes, inlet boxes, manholes, catch basins, and retainer walls.
- Operates concrete saws and breakers.
- Set curb, gutter, and sidewalk forms.
- Lays storm sewer pipes.
- Loads and unloads construction materials.
- Sets grade lines using engineering grade stakes.
- Reads blueprints for job specifications.
- Performs projects in a safe, proper, and timely manner.
- Report problems to the foreman.
- Perform daily service and maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
- May be required to work on leaf, brush, and debris removal as necessary.
- This department may require employees to perform a variety of other assigned duties.
- Shifts may vary according to the needs of the city.
- Individual must have three years of experience with city or other organizations with training in concrete/masonry and carpentry work.
- High school graduate, GED certificate, or equivalent experience.
- Must have a valid drivers' license but prefer a valid Class B commercial driver's license with air brakes endorsement.
- Ability to climb ladders and work on high structures.
- Ability and knowledge to use different types of tools associated with this position.
- Ability to interpret/utilize engineering-grade stakes and blueprints.
- Ability to operate various equipment pertaining to position duties.
- Ability to operate various trucks assigned to the Street Department.
- Knowledge of Street Department rules and regulations.
- Ability to complete assignments in a timely, orderly, and safe manner with minimum supervision.
- Knowledge of the City of Florence streets and subdivisions.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures on the job site and in moving traffic.
- Ability to maintain a good relationship with co-workers and customers.
- Ability to read, write, and interpret written assignments.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to work outside in all types of weather.
- Ability to stoop and bend for a full shift.
- Ability to push and pull forms.
- Ability to crawl in and out of manholes, inlets, and ditches.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds (more on occasion) on a regular basis.
- Ability to lift and use vacuum and pressure hoses.
- Subject to be called out in times of emergencies.
Equipment/Tools Used:
- Various carpenter tools (hammer, saws, drills, measuring devices, etc.).
- Various masonry tools (concrete saw, breaker, finishing, and hand tools).
- Various painters' tools (brushes, paints, and cleaners)
- Blueprints
- Engineering-grade stakes
- Various trucks.
Supervision Required: Duties are assigned by the foreman and must be completed with a minimum of supervision and direction. The employee uses their own judgment and skills to perform the job in a safe, accurate, and timely manner.
