ICON is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Electro-Mechanical Technician to join the Phoenix Team, directly supporting the ramp-up of the Phoenix EV1/EV2 systems and scaling these technologies into production and sustaining operations. This role is critical to delivering ICON's next-generation 3D printing systems by ensuring readiness, reliability, and repeatability across all Phoenix subsystems, including Printer, Materials Creation, and Delivery systems.
This technician will work across Electro-Mechanical and Control Systems production, driving assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and sustainment of complex hardware. You'll be an integral part of cross-functional efforts in both prototype and production environments, helping transition bleeding-edge designs into scalable manufacturing processes. This role is based at ICON's Austin, TX campus and will report to our Senior Manager of Manufacturing Production.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build, test, and troubleshoot complex electro-mechanical assemblies and control systems.
- Support the transition of Phoenix subsystems (Printer, Materials Creation, Delivery) from prototype to production.
- Perform system-level diagnostics and root cause analyses on mechanical, electrical, and software-integrated issues.
- Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams to support builds and troubleshoot issues effectively.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to continuously improve system performance and manufacturability.
- Execute system and subsystem-level validation tests and document results to inform design improvements.
- Install, configure, and maintain control panels, sensors, actuators, motors, and electrical harnesses.
- Provide hands-on feedback to engineering teams for DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and support sustaining activities on the shop floor.
- Participate in the scaling of manufacturing processes and documentation (SOPs, work instructions, etc.).
- Maintain a high standard of safety, quality, and operational discipline in a fast-paced R&D and production environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of experience in hands-on electro-mechanical assembly and testing in a production or R&D environment.
- Deep experience with mechanical assembly, cable harnessing, panel wiring, and industrial control systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics, PLC systems, and industrial equipment troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with tools like multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic and calibration tools.
- Experience supporting the manufacturing of capital equipment or robotics systems.
- Ability to work from engineering drawings, schematics, and verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
- High attention to detail and a proactive, collaborative working style.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in challenging environmental conditions, including outdoor and field environments.
- Willingness to support international travel (~4+ weeks/year) and field-based deployments.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience supporting electro-mechanical systems in a startup or fast-paced innovation environment.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks Electrical or similar CAD tools.
- Experience with ANSI and ISO standards for wiring and mechanical documentation.
- Previous experience in large-scale additive manufacturing or construction robotics is a plus.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
