8:00 am - 4:30 pm; Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.

Primary Purpose of Position

This is a Facility Maintenance Technician (Mechanical Trades) at the Journey level. The position is considered to be fully functioning in a particular trade area. Additionally, this position is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work at the contributing level. This position may also allow you to perform/learn another trade discipline at the contributing or journey level. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction, and design of facility components in assigned shop.

Minimum Education/Experience

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

University Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years experience. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Essential Job Duties

Maintain, operate and repair, chillers(air and water cooled) and cooling towers.

Perform routine maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, efficiently, and the physical condition do no deteriorate.

Use electrical test devices to troubleshoot and repair chillers and cooling towers.

Diagnose equipment problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.

Other Work Responsibilities

Act as a Journey level worker and assist with other maintenance technicians to Maintain, repair, replace boilers, and pumps on the hydronic system.

Work with minimal supervision or instruction, and complete work with competence and professionalism in compliance with generally accepted trade practices.

Communicate effectively with customers, and managers, and provide high-quality customer service based on University policy and procedures.

Record daily activities in an order tracking system (Archibus).

Perform other duties as assigned to support all operations

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

High school diploma or GED equivalency.

2-4 years' experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration equipment specializing in chillers/cooling towers.

Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension) required.

Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.

Computer literate.

Knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, and willingness to learn new programs.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications

Positions may be required to possess and maintain required certification, licensure, educational level, and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.

EPA 608 Universal Certification is REQUIRED for this position.

Valid driver's license required. The RUP Shop position requires the operation of assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment to the position.
