The Function: As a Test Facility Mechanical Engineer for Rolls-Royce, you'll work with all aspects of test facility lifecycles. The test facility lifecycle consists of work related to new facility creation, conversion and adaptation of test equipment, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, capability improvements, and facility decommissioning activities. What you'll do: This is an exciting new position where you'll work with test engineering and project groups to help ensure Rolls-Royce has the test facility capabilities ready when they are needed. You could be presented with the following opportunities: Design and deliver mechanical test equipment for; gas turbine whole engine/subsystem/component, hybrid electric propulsion, thermal management, directed energy, and energy storage system testing. Evaluate, selects and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptation and modifications to existing test equipment. Applies, sizes, selects, installs, uses, and troubleshoots process control systems, load absorbers, valves, piping, fittings, tubing, pumps, motors, pneumatic systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, and hydraulic systems. Create specifications, cost/ schedule estimates, obtains vendor quotations, and initiates procurement/fabrication process. Perform job oversight during the test facility conversions or test equipment installations. Provide direction for internal personnel and/or contracted personnel. Organize safety meetings related to installation efforts. Coordinate to ensure installations do not interfere with other testing that may be in progress or planned. Documents work through concept sketches, layouts, drawings, reports, memos, best practice guides, and regular status updates/emails Developing solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope. Working without constant or direct oversight, but under the general guidance of the team manager or more senior engineers You will also perform stress, strain, thermal, and life calculations or analyses to ensure equipment design is fit for purpose while doing 3D modeling and drafting work with participation as a team member in operational improvement projects. What you'll need: Basic Requirements: Bachelor's Degree minimum 3.0 GPA Must have graduated between May 2024 and May 2025 Candidates will be able to/have: You will need a technical background and a degree in engineering. In addition, you will need excellent communication skills, be driven to ask questions, seek novel solutions, and work well in a collaborative environment. We are looking for candidates that have that mechanical mindset, interested in breaking down how something might work and figuring out solutions and putting the puzzle pieces together.
