The Assistant Project Manager (APM) provides support to the Electrical Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and overseeing electrical construction projects from inception to completion. This role involves assisting with project scheduling, document control, vendor coordination, and financial tracking to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with company policies and safety standards in a collaborative environment with cross-functional teams to ensure continued profitability and growth. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned) Assist with pre-construction activities, including document preparation, scheduling, and ensuring a smooth transition from estimating to project execution. Support project scheduling by tracking milestones, updating timelines, and coordinating with field teams to align progress. Assist in the development of project budgets, extracting cost and labor estimates, and entering data into ERP and timekeeping systems. Coordinate and process submittals, RFIs, and change orders, ensuring timely responses to prevent field delays. Track project costs and assist with forecasting to help maintain budgetary control. Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely procurement, negotiation, and delivery of materials. Maintain and organize project documentation, including contracts, permits, safety plans, compliance records, and drawings. Conduct site visits to support the Project Manager in monitoring progress, quality control, and adherence to project specifications. Assist in preparing monthly progress billings, work-in-progress reports, and financial documentation for review. Collaborate with field teams to address operational issues, providing necessary documentation and problem-solving support. Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies, assist in safety plan development and tracking safety documentation. Support project meetings, including pre-bid meetings, progress check-ins, and close-out reviews, taking notes and following up on action items. Assist in project close-out, ensuring all final documentation, inspections, and client handover procedures are completed effectively. Work alongside project managers, project coordinators, and estimators to support company goals and project success. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position collaborates in the oversight of Foreman, Journeyman, and Helpers but is not the direct supervisor. Responsibilities include communicating, planning, scheduling, and assigning work. Minimum Qualification Standards: Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred. 2-5 years of experience in electrical construction or project management. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. High School Diploma or GED required. OSHA 10 & NFPA 70E required. Knowledge and proficiency with Code requirements and basic electrical engineering calculations; Voltage-drop, Ohm's law, conduit-fill, wire ampacity, de-rating, etc. Valid NYS driver's license free from major infractions required. Team player, self-motivated, gets along well with supervisors, peers, and subordinates. Special Requirements: Ability to work overtime, early starts, nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to commute up to two hours from home. Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Extensive experience with Excel, Word, Outlook, Bluebeam, Spectrum, and one of the major computerized estimating programs (e.g., ConEst, Accubid, McCormick, etc.) preferred. Possess strong problem-solving abilities to address and solve survey challenges associated with construction operations. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Knowledge of all federal, state, and local building codes, ordinances, and regulations. Demonstrates organizational and project management skills, including ability to set and manage multiple priorities, and to establish deadlines and ensure the timely completion of projects. Equipment, Machines, and Software Used: This position requires the regular use of a computer, printer, copier, fax machine, telephone, scanner, and calculator. Ability to wear safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hat, gloves, and/or hearing protection while at job sites. Mental Requirements: High mental and visual attention required for planning or directing fairly complex work methods or operations that impact client relationships. Physical Requirements: Ability to climb ladders and steep stairs, sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, push, pull, reach, crawl, crouch, kneel, bend or stoop, and perform repetitive motions of the hands, arms, and/or fingers. Ability to work from all type ladders (step ladders up to 14', "A" frame ladders, and all size extension ladders) and carry and relocate up to 12' step ladder by oneself. Employee's personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limit of ladder (Class 1-250 lbs., Class 1A-300 lbs.). Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Environmental Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Employees are exposed to outdoor weather and various field conditions, odors, fumes, gases, smoke, dust, petroleum-based products, and/or hazardous materials. Work may be performed in high places where risk of falling exists. Workers may be required to work in congested areas and confined spaces.
